The opening event was hosted at Roy Thomson Hall by Tourism Toronto and well, they threw an amazing party. Everyone there is excited and all the firepower from the hosts is on display. The first day of the conference was good and at the end there was speed dating. The first date I had was a complete disaster but the subsequent ones after were swell.
On the topic of selling yourself, lots of money rolling into this industry right now. Saturday night had a few official and unofficial parties aka solid times for those of us who love socializing. The final day was similar to the first and most of my time was spent on the trade-show floor. I attended the Visit South Africa campaign report and was just as honored to be included in the talk as I was to have been invited to the destination.
Afterwards I did more networking with destinations in thirty minutes than even I thought was possible. It was nice to meet destinations that seemed as interested in collaborating as myself and also shared the same end goal of creating creative content. The future looks bright for those who like to travel and also take the time to share their experiences online.

Although we lived in London for nearly five years we unfortunately never made it to Ireland. Driving is definitely a must in seeing Ireland. While there are many roads that just lead off into amazing scenery with open spaces, there are still many other narrow roads that leave very little room for cars to pass. And I think a road would be a great idea!
And I think a road trip would be a great idea! How many days would you suggest to getthe most out of Ireland if you were to hire a car? Would this be cheaper then to get a bus from place to place for a backpacker? In saying that a car lets you go more places than the bus does so its a bit of a decision for you. Its a difficult one as I think a car is needed to explore well as it gives you so much freedom.
We went in March and April this year and booked well in advance mths. We did this and stayed a week at a time in various spots and planned it so that we could cover a few counties from there. I do have to say though that I developed an absolute phobia of driving once we got into the rural areas. And yes driving in the more remote parts of Ireland are an adventure to say the least, certainly not for the faint of heart as I found out as well.
We took a trip to Scotland recently, and these would apply there as well.
Tilley to the Rescue As Kim and I clamored along the back trail at Ingapirca, heading towards the face carved in the mountain, it became very obvious to me that I had made a dreadful error in judgment. The back trail is optional, and is treacherous and unstable at best. The rambling path and elevated steps at 10, feet, were placing me in a very precarious position, especially when the wind picked up. I wore my straw Panama hat and did not want to lose it to a sudden gust.

Which is a shame, because the city is amazing and very cosy. The capital of Ireland has an interesting and grim history, but the Irish people are very welcoming and lovely. The city is not that big, but there are lots of nice things to do in and around the city. Walk and cycle through the city First of all, since the city is not that big, everywhere you go is walkable. But if you want to cycle like Dutch people do best, then take a Dublin city bike to cross around the city.
But mind you, the Irish drive on the left side of the road just like in Great-Britain! The river Liffey, Dublin Look everywhere for nice places to eat Dublin is an ideal place if you want have a bite or drink. At every corner you can find a nice place to sit and eat nice food for affordable prices. But you can find literally anything to eat in the city, just walk around and go to a place that speaks to you.
Also known as STSLeipzig across much of social media, this summit brought together a mixture of travel bloggers, writers, broadcasters, PRs, DMOs, and influencers in the industry for 2 action packed days of learning, networking, idea sharing, and yes, great parties. I know most of you likely come here to read about travel destinations, however, I thought it would be interesting to write about the other side of the industry — not just the sun-kissed beaches and the lush green rice terraces — but the cool ideas that get thrown around when you bring a group of passionate travellers together.

I don’t bother with speed dating since I get the feeling industry people look at me as someone who wants a free trip. I enjoy TBEX for the opportunity to tour the host city with conference attendee discounts and complimentary passes.
A lot of bloggers have asked me about whether it’s a worthwhile conference and how such a big and buzzy event can be helpful for independent-minded bloggers. In my opinion, it all depends on who you are and where you are in your travel blogging journey. Maybe there were a people at that meeting in the Chicago Cultural Center but it seemed more intimate. That was four years ago. TBEX Toronto attracted attendees. It didn’t seem intimate, it didn’t seem like just a gathering. There were pre-tours and post tours and parties and speed dating and lots of drama.
If you are an introvert and don’t deal well with crowds, you probably wouldn’t find TBEX that enjoyable.
